Hotel Review of Viceroy Los Cabos

FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF VICEROY LOS CABOS

When I visited Viceroy Los Cabos, I was instantly enamored with the hotel’s delivery on “WOW” factor. This high-design property will stimulate you in ways you didn’t know a hotel could. Everywhere you walk, you’ll want to stop and stare in awe at your surroundings and think, “How did they do that?” The architecture feels more like an art installation than a resort, blending water, light, and sleek lines into something truly extraordinary. At the same time, it never feels cold or unapproachable — there’s an inviting energy that makes you want to linger, explore, and experience it all.

WHAT TYPES OF ROOMS DOES VICEROY LOS CABOS OFFER?

All of Viceroy’s 192 rooms look straight out onto the water — layers of blue from the Sea of Cortez framed by the hotel’s cascading pools. The interiors are chic, modern, and minimalist, but never at the expense of comfort. The beds were so irresistibly plush that I couldn’t resist a quick trial run before snapping a photo… hence the wrinkled bedding. It felt honest — a true testament to how welcoming the space is.

The furnished balcony became my favorite perch, a little stage for everyday rituals. I sat there with still-warm guacamole and a frosty margarita, a thoughtful welcome from the hotel team. I’m always so grateful for those small gestures. They remind me how travel is as much about flavor as it is about place. For me, tasting that first bite in a new destination feels like opening the first page of a book — it’s the beginning of the story I came to discover. Want more info on Viceroy Los Cabos? Click here

WHAT TO DO AT VICEROY LOS CABOS?

Water, water everywhere—so lounging on the beach or poolside is always a solid choice. But if you’re looking for something different, the resort surprises at every turn. The on-site art gallery hosts rotating exhibits and even offers classes, making it fun to explore creativity before diving into a hands-on activity. Then there’s the intimate cinema, where you can catch a film in style with high-end audio and a luxe atmosphere—ideal for cooling down after a sunny day.

Beyond that, there’s a little something for every kind of traveler. You can shop at the KM33 boutique tucked inside the spa, stroll to the beach for a sip at the Veuve Clicquot SUN CLUB pop-up, or let the spa’s thermal chambers, hydro-massage, and signature treatments completely reset you. If you want to venture beyond the resort, you’re in prime territory for snorkeling, paddleboarding, or exploring San José del Cabo’s art scene, ceviche spots, and quirky boutiques.

Must love sun. Cabo is warm… some call it hot. It is a desert after all – which makes every hotel a private oasis. Luckily, you’re never more than a few steps from the shade. That same sun casts shadows that dance around the white buildings all day long.

The hotel literally sits in the water. No matter how strong the sun feels, being encircled by water naturally cools the air, adds just the right amount of humidity, and is visually soothing.

RESTAURANTS AT VICEROY LOS CABOS

The culinary scene is where Viceroy Los Cabos really comes alive. We started our mornings at Casero, where modern Mexican comfort food felt both familiar and fresh, and somehow the coffee tasted better with the sea breeze drifting in. Midday, we’d linger by the pool or beach for light bites under an umbrella, only to be tempted later by Nido, the dramatic nest-like centerpiece that drew us in with its ceviches and sushi. Evenings became a choice between the elegance of Cielomar, where multi-course chef’s menus turned into events all their own, or the energy of Awacate, a newer addition that pulsed with live music, mezcal cocktails, and street-style tacos beneath the citrus trees. Wherever we dined, it wasn’t just the food — it was the setting, the design, the atmosphere — every meal felt like part of the story Viceroy is telling.

My favorite meal was at CielomarFeed me melted Oaxacan cheese paired with burned artichokes and I’ll do anything you ask. Follow it up with Grilled Romaine and I’ll have consumed just enough veggies to justify a truffle pizza. And the next day, my palate will remain so pleased that all I need is a simple fish taco. Salivating yet?

Another great perk about Viceroy Los Cabos is its close proximity to San José del Cabo. The old part of town is just a short bike ride (we did that) or a quick cab fare away, making it effortless to slip into a completely different scene. San José del Cabo is the area’s mecca for dining, with a mix of colorful cantinas, creative modern Mexican spots, and fine dining that rivals any big city. Strolling the cobblestone streets, you’ll also find art galleries, boutiques, and a vibrant Thursday night Art Walk that makes the town come alive. It’s the perfect balance — retreat to the serenity of Viceroy, then head into town when you’re ready for a little buzz of local culture. Let’s chat about rates and dates! Click here.

Take a walk on the beach and marvel at the sea. You can look but don’t touch — this isn’t a swimmable beach and the undercurrents are deadly. We know, it feels like torture — like window shopping the most extraordinary outfit and being forced to keep on walking. As you head back toward Viceroy Los Cabos, you’ll stop and take it all in. From the sand, the hotel looks completely different — the individual sunshades on each balcony create a lego-like pattern across the towering buildings, unlike anything you’ve seen before. And just above it all, the rooftop pool stretches out as if suspended over the sea, a surreal spot to swim and lounge while gazing back at the ocean you can’t quite touch.

WHAT’S THE VIBE AT VICEROY LOS CABOS?

Viceroy Los Cabos looks and feels entirely different after the sun goes down. During the day, the hotel feels like a modern retreat — Miami beach club meets chill California surf hotel. But at night the hotel transforms into something closer to live theater. Lounge music carries across the water and the purple lights that illuminate the buildings have a cool, calming effect. (In color therapy, purple is the color of calm — so it makes sense.) As you move through the walkways, reflections ripple off the pools, and the whole property feels cinematic, almost like you’ve stepped onto a movie set. It’s glamorous but not overwhelming — the kind of place where you can sip a cocktail, listen to the water, and feel like you’re part of the show without ever leaving your seat.

THE SPA AT VICEROY LOS CABOS

There are healthy options on every menu and a noteworthy spa. This is not a hotel you check into for a total wellness reboot. Instead, it’s the kind of place where you can easily keep steady on your current routines and habits, but also feel tempted to indulge — and you should.

The spa itself is 11,000 square feet — impressive for a resort this size. The mood lighting does the trick, and you’re instantly transported to another world. There are hydrotherapy pools, steam rooms, and a full menu of treatments ranging from locally inspired rituals to high-tech facials. Wellness here also extends beyond the spa: sunrise yoga on the beach, a sleek fitness center with ocean views, and even bike paths that encourage you to explore San José del Cabo. The philosophy feels balanced — not restrictive or overly programmed, but supportive of the way real people travel: mixing a workout or yoga session with guacamole, margaritas, and plenty of downtime in the sun. The Spa at Viceroy Los Cabos in their own words:

Coconut

“Mind. Body. Soul. THE SPA at Viceroy Los Cabos soothes all, from the very first moment you’re with us. Therapeutic mood lighting quiets the mind as your experience begins.”

WHO IS VICEROY LOS CABOS BEST FOR?

Viceroy has an undeniable social element to it. While you can undoubtedly exist on property and not speak to a soul other than the staff, the open-aired design concept and shared spaces make conversation easy. The multi-room villas + casitas provide ample space to host a private party.

All that being said, I think Viceroy is best for small social groups. (Or not so small – we saw a stunning destination wedding take place while we were there and it was breathtaking! Great hotel for weddings!) Bachelor/bachelorette weekends and girlfriends getaways come to mind. The hotel’s location makes it easy to explore all Los Cabos is famous for – fabulous food, entertaining nightlight, and 360 days of sunshine.

FINAL THOUGHTS // What I loved most about my stay here was how the hotel would look totally different at any hour of the day. The shadows shifted, and an illusion of more space would be created. It was insane and felt like we were vacationing in a living art museum. Viceroy Los Cabos is not a large hotel, but at every turn, you’ll feel you were stepping somewhere new.

How far is Viceroy Los Cabos from the airport?

Viceroy Los Cabos is in San Jose del Cabo, around 30 minutes from the Los Cabos Airport.

Is Viceroy Los Cabos adults-only?

Viceroy welcomes children with open arms and even has an adorable kid’s club, but I feel the property appeals more to adults.

Can you swim at Viceroy Los Cabos?

Due to strong currents, we advise against swimming at the beach adjacent to the resort. There are swimmer-friendly beaches just a short trip away where you can experience amazing snorkeling, SUP, and swimming. The nearest beach is Palmilla’s Beach, located approximately 10 minutes by car from the resort.
